I’m loving Aetna’s Month of Mindfulness 30-day program and so excited to share today’s tip with you as it is so simply and effective in helping to improve mindfulness. This tip can help you feel better in just minutes…here you go!
Tip #2: Breathe better
Start by pausing and being aware of your breathing. There’s no breathing technique here. It’s about noticing that you are breathing. Notice the texture, it may be shallow or deep, choppy or smooth. There’s no correct way. Notice where you feel your breathing: in the nostrils, chest, or abdomen. Let your attention rest wherever you feel your breathing the most. Â
Today, I practiced the above breathing tip at the start of my day while sitting in my home office. I noticed that it seemed most natural for me to inhale through my nose, causing my chest to expand and then I exhale through my mouth. During the course of the exercise my breathing seemed to slow down and I felt much more calm and relaxed after just five minutes of mindful breathing! Try it for yourself!
