It’s summertime and nothing sounds better than an ice cold sangria on a hot, summer day. Whether you are entertaining or just love drinking sangria, you will find that not only is this recipe super simple (just 3 ingredients) and refreshing but it will also allow you to enjoy sangria without guilt or fear of not fitting into skinny jeans this fall. I know that all the poolside fun and family vacations can take a toll on your waistline.
This 3 ingredient Skinny Strawberry Sangria is made from 3 of my favorite food and drink picks! California strawberries, red wine, and LaCroix sparkling water. I work with the folks at the California Strawberry Commission and love sharing the most recent strawberry research and surprising strawberry facts.
Did you know that California strawberries are naturally low in sugar with almost half the sugar of an apple? One cup of California strawberries (about 8) has only 7 grams of sugar and 45 calories. California strawberries are loaded with 220 mg of potassium and we know that boosting potassium and reducing sodium intake in our diets can help control blood pressure.
Back to my recipe, this skinny strawberry sangria also uses LaCroix 100% natural sparking water, a longtime recommendation of mine. It’s calorie, sweetener, and sodium free with nothing artificial.
The third ingredient is red wine. I do enjoy my red wine (in moderation) and fortunately, there is research showing benefits of resveratrol, an antioxidant found in red wine. For this sangria, I used a bottle of Malbec but you can use any red wine you have on hand whether it is a Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, or other varietal.
