Memorial day is coming up, and than means
outdoor barbeques and parties. The long weekend is prime for overdoing our diets, as it can be extremely hard to avoid overindulging. Here are some tips for making out this long weekend without expanding your waistline:
Appetizers
Fried foods can be a tempting, but high calorie appetizer choice. Skip the high fat options and try to stick with bean salads, guacamole, fruits and veggies instead.
Main Meal
Whether it’s fish, beef, pork, or chicken you’ll be eating, look for the leaner but delicious option. For fish, choose salmon to get a boost of omega 3′s. If you are grilling a burger choose a leaner ground beef like Laura’s Lean Beef. If you want pork, go for the pork tenderloin which is just as lean as a skinless chicken breast. Of course, you can choose a grilled chicken breast with BBQ sauce.
Dessert
For some, dinner just isn’t complete without something sweet. Be wary of high calorie pies, cakes, and your portions of ice cream. Try to make fruit part of your dessert. Watermelon is a juicy, delicious and nutritious choice. Learn how to pick a good watermelon. Make this cool watermelon Americana Basket as your serving dish.
No matter how you spend your weekend, enjoy your time off with friends and family, be active and have a fun Memorial Day Weekend!
