Eat Breakfast For Weight Control

“Breakfast is the most important meal of the day” isn’t just a myth.  Eating breakfast can provide you with energy for the rest of your day and can actually help you lose weight!

Breakfast provides a numerous number of benefits such as, improved concentration and performance throughout the day and a more well-rounded diet full of nutrients, vitamins, and minerals.  It has also been linked to decreased cholesterol levels.

Eating breakfast has also been linked to better weight control.  Many people believe that if they skip breakfast they will save on their total amount of calories during the day; the opposite has been shown to be true.  Those who eat breakfast tend to eat fewer calories the rest of the day and are more satisfied than those who eat nothing.

Not hungry in the morning? Start out slowly with a piece of fruit, 100% fruit or vegetable juice, or just a piece of toast.  Then later when you get hungry, grab a yogurt or a whole-wheat bagel.  If you don’t like breakfast foods, try eating a half of a sandwich on whole-grain bread and a glass of low-fat milk.

Below are a few breakfast ideas to get your day off to an energized start!

Breakfast Ideas:

  • Oatmeal topped with fresh fruit.
  • Breakfast smoothie with milk, frozen fruit, honey and a scoop of protein powder.
  • Greek yogurt with berries.
  • Lean meat and an egg on a whole-wheat English muffin.

If you are running short on time, keep some of these foods in your kitchen for quick and easy breakfast options:

  • Instant oatmeal
  • Whole-grain bread
  • Greek yogurt
  • Fresh fruit
  • Frozen fruit

What is your favorite breakfast food?
